When to get married in Puglia

Month by month: weather, light, crowds and prices, from a planner who lives here.

Puglia is one of the sunniest regions in Italy, and the wedding season runs from late April to mid-October. The "best" month depends on what matters most to you: heat, light, the sea, budget or availability. Here is an honest month-by-month guide from Giusy D'Ambrosio, a destination wedding planner based in Ostuni with more than 17 years of weddings in Puglia.

The short answer: June and September

For most international couples, June and September are the sweet spot: warm but not scorching days, long golden evenings, a warm sea for the guests and the whole region open and alive. They are also the most requested months, so the best venues book 12 to 18 months ahead.

Month by month

April and May: spring in bloom

Green countryside, wild flowers and poppies, pleasant days (often around 20 to 25°C) and cool evenings. Perfect for daytime celebrations in masserie and olive groves. The sea is still cool and there is a small chance of rain, so a covered plan B is essential. Lower demand means more choice of dates.

June: the classic choice

Long days with sunset after 8pm, warm temperatures and a sea that is pleasant for swimming. Ideal for welcome parties by the sea and dinners under the stars. Very popular: book early.

July and August: high summer

Hot days (often above 30°C), very lively towns and beaches, and peak prices for flights and accommodation, especially around Ferragosto (15 August). We plan ceremonies late in the afternoon, choose venues with shade and breeze, and keep the party going late into the night. Great for couples who want a true Mediterranean summer.

September: golden light

Many planners' favourite month. The heat softens, the sea is at its warmest, the light is golden and the grape harvest begins. The most requested month along with June.

October: late season

Mild days, fewer tourists, earlier sunsets and better availability, with olive harvest time arriving towards the end of the month. The weather is less predictable, so we always plan an elegant indoor or covered alternative.

November to March: intimate and off-season

Many seasonal venues close and the weather is mild but changeable. A good time for elopements, intimate weddings in historic towns and cosy dinners, with lower prices and total flexibility.

Tips for choosing your date

  • Book early: for June and September, secure your venue 12 to 18 months ahead.
  • Consider weekdays: Friday or midweek dates often offer more availability and better rates.
  • Check flights: Brindisi and Bari airports have many more direct international flights in summer.
  • Time the ceremony with the sun: in summer we usually start late in the afternoon, so photos are taken in the golden hour.
  • Always have a plan B: even in the driest months, a covered option gives peace of mind.
